Neighborhood Spotlight: Rittenhouse Square

Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia, PA

The exclusive Rittenhouse Square neighborhood is best known for its beautiful, historic, tree-filled Rittenhouse Square Park, and its surrounding attractions: fine dining, high-end retail shopping, wellness boutiques, high-rise residences, and, of course, people-watching. The park resonates with history, and passersby can walk along its tree and bench-lined paths to catch glimpses of an array of sculptures that span from the early 1800s to the mid-1900s.

Transcript:

Rittenhouse is Rittenhouse, it’s its own league, it’s its own caliber, it’s its own character, it really is almost its own beast.

One of the really cool things about Rittenhouse Square is you’re always going to run into somebody you know.

Somebody’s mother’s brother’s sister’s cousin, you’re gonna know.

If you want that neighborhood feel, that’s Rittenhouse Square as well.

Not to mention you will not go hungry.

Top Tier Culture & Tree-lined Charm in Center City

William Penn built the square in 1663 as one of Philadelphia’s five original squares. Originally known as “Southwest Square,” it was renamed in 1825 to commemorate David Rittenhouse, an astronomer, clockmaker, Revolutionary War supporter, and son to the creator of Philadelphia’s original paper mill.

Today, the neighborhood has some of the best dining, shopping, and culture in Philadelphia. While you’re in the neighborhood, take a stroll down the stately JFK Parkway to visit the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Barnes Foundation, or the Academy of Natural Sciences. Immerse yourself in the sounds of Philadelphia at the Curtis Institute of Music, the Kimmel Center, and the Academy of Music. Pass City Hall as you cross the Avenue of the Arts and learn about Philadelphia’s rich history in Old City and Society Hill. It’s only a short walk back home to the Square.

Rittenhouse Square also attracts out-of-town foodies. The bistros, restaurants, and steakhouses that surround the Square are not only the best in the city, they are some of the best in the world. Local James Beard award-winner Stephen Starr has a collection of high-end restaurants in the neighborhood, including Barclay Prime, Parc , and Continental Mid-Town.

Bustling with luxury boutiques, local artists, and wine and cheese- inspired picnics on its green, Rittenhouse Square is in the middle of all the action. Old mansions have been converted into high-end multi-level residences, which sit among renovated high rise condo buildings, make residing here a dream. With its history, prestige, and easy access to the rest of the city, Rittenhouse Square is one of the most desirable places to be.
